Force of Nature Havilah Malone Premieres “I’m In Love” Short & Earns Grammy Consideration for Spoken Word LP
“This is truly beyond any dream I had as a middle school girl who found an avenue of expression in the pages of her diary, as poetic streams of consciousness poured onto the page. I didn’t know that I was cultivating my voice and my connection with infinite intelligence by opening and allowing that channel of communication to flow through me. Fast forward to today, as I get the extreme pleasure to officially announce that my new Spoken Word album ‘Proof of What’s Possible’ is up for Grammy consideration in two categories: Spoken Word Poetry Album of the Year & Best Album Cover. This is all proof of what is possible!” — award-winning renaissance woman, Havilah Malone
When a force of nature just blows across your path, where does one start? Grab on and see where it goes.
Indeed, that’s what happened across the street from the world-famous Capitol Records building when I attended a unique “Hollywood Writers Group” Meetup at an awesome venue — The Aster: Boutique Hotel & Members’ Club in Hollywood.
This “HWG” event was where I met Louisiana-born influencer Havilah Malone who has enjoyed many roles so far in her journey from Ms. Louisiana, TV/Radio Host, actor, model, business strategist, and more. And, now she’s an award-winning film producer and, yes, Grammy-considered musical artist, of which she says, “I have to thank my amazing collaborators who believed in my work, and my vision. These six composers/producers, who include Ms. CrissyJ, Sunday Morzeno, Becca Schack, The Della Kit, Scotty Grand and Deezle, helped me take this work to another level through the musical compositions that make this album shine even brighter and impact lives even deeper.”
Additionally, Havilah pushed beyond meaningful and inspiring “spoken word” rhythms to let her voice go and sing the track ‘The Cycle.’ It feels like one of those iconic jazz legends, with wonderful musicianship, including piano and sax. She says of this track: “I felt compelled to sing a version and to speak a version of that piece, and composer Sunday Morzeno kept saying it reminded him of a jazz club singer in the Deep South, where we’re both from (Nola). So, he composed a great piece to complement it. For me, ‘The Cycle’ is the most vulnerable piece on the album for me. Because I don’t really sing publicly. But I knew I needed to for that track to live and breathe.”
Then there’s Ms. CrissyJ, the amazing composer/producer for the LP’s first track, ‘I’m in Love.’ Indeed, this track is also the title of Havilah’s award-winning short movie — I’m In Love is a engrossing short film directed by Roberta Sparta and which is premiering on October 24 at the Micheaux Film Festival in Los Angeles. Ms. Crissy, who also has a new musical release coming out on October 10 called ‘Femme Parfait,’ composed for this short movie, as well.
The background skinny on I’m In Love, this already award-winning, short movie, goes: What if love was the safest place we could ever know? I’m in Love is a spoken word cinematic experience that traces one woman’s journey through romance, reflection, and revelation. Guided by a hypnotic voice and a mysterious map, she follows a trail of intimate gifts — each one more personal than the last. What begins as a love story unfolds into something far more transformative. Through evocative poetry and raw vulnerability, this film explores what it means to be truly seen. I’m In Love isn’t a film you watch — it’s a film you remember.
Indeed, Havilah notes that I’m In Love has already received international recognition, including The Filmic Brilliance Award at the NEW WBC Women in Entertainment Conference in Los Angeles, along with awards at festivals across France and Greece. In addition, Havilah was recently honored with a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Legislature for her cultural and community contributions.
Furthermore, Havilah explains the motivation behind naming the film after the first track on her Grammy-considered LP: “The intention is to do short films for all of the tracks on the album. The full vision for the film version of ‘I’m In Love’ was downloaded to me first. It showed itself to me, from the first scene all the way through to the last scene. And you go where energy flows… so, I knew that was the first film I was supposed to produce. And we did.”
